The Walk

Snaking through the streets
of Auckland's central hub,
the guided walk will introduce you to all the best bits of our seaside metropolis.

The Koha System

At the end of your tour, we encourage our happy walkers to offer their friendly guide a 'koha' or donation, that will go directly back into our collective.

The Walk

The walk leaves from the Queens Wharf Village (89 Quay Street) at 10am daily, and 2pm Thursday to Sunday.

The entire walk will take between 2.5 and 3 hours, and we’ll be walking rain or shine.

Bookings aren’t necessary, just come on down and look out for your friendly guide who will be holding a bright blue Auckland Free Walking Tours umbrella.

From Auckland’s rich history right through to the brand new developments of our fair city, your AFWT guide will walk and talk you through the changing ages of New Zealand’s largest metropolis.

Taking off from Auckland’s downtown, the walk heads up through Britomart Transport Centre, taking you through the city’s pedestrian laneways and right up to the recently renovated Auckland Art Gallery. You’ll then wander through the historic Albert Park and University of Auckland, before heading back down to Auckland’s famous viaduct precinct and across Te Wero Bridge, concluding among the hustle and bustle of the always-interesting Silo Park.

While we strive to visit all stops on our walk, please be aware that due to the each walk being unique we might not visit all stops listed above.

Why Are We Free?

Auckland Free Walking Tours is really, truly a social enterprise, which means we really, truly do this because we’re just that passionate about showing visitors our weird and wonderful city. That’s what inspired the creation of AFWT, and that’s what our motivation will always be.

But we do also live in the real world, with real running costs, and real tour guides to pay. To make these ends meet, AFWT does encourage all our happy customers to offer their guide a ‘koha’ (gift, donation, contribution) at the end of the tour. Your koha will go directly back into our collective, so that we can pay our awesome guides to keep showing off our awesome city.

Why are you free?

Auckland Free Walking Tours (AFWT) is really, truly a social enterprise, which means we really, truly do this because we’re just that passionate about showing visitors our weird and wonderful city. That is what inspired the creation of AFWT, and that is what our motivation will always be.
